OBJECTIVES

There are a number of sources from which we can draw the aims and objectives of Salesian communication.  The objectives listed here come from a draft reference document on the Salesian System of Social Communication (SSSC) available on the main SDB website under Social Communications.

The youngso they can understand, master and critically use the processes, languages and resources of Social Communication in their relationship with God, with persons, with society, and be informed about the Congregation, the Province, the Church and Religious Life.

The local people and the missions: so they are well-served by resources of Social Communication adapted to the work of formation and socio-politico-cultural-religious development, and of information and research on youth.

The Salesians: so they can be qualified as cultural animators, knowing and mastering the new languages of Social Communication, and can be sustained by resources of communication for the mission of education, and by information on the life of the Congregation, the Salesian Family, the young and education, and be satisfied with the spread of Salesian beliefs and values.

The Congregation: so that it may have at its disposition a professional system of Social Communication at the service of communion and mission, with personnel who are motivated and qualified, having a common project and vision; which has centres of salesian formation and production, with instruments appropriate to information and with an image of the educative and evangelizing institution working at the service of the young and the poor.

Lay co-workers: so they can understand the language of youth, know the preventive system, be formed as cultural animators, and be assisted with the resources of Social Communication for their educative-pastoral work.  And so can be informed about the realities of youth and education.

The Salesian Family: so that it may be informed about its own story (keeps its historical perspective) and about the events of Salesian life; sustained by resources of communication for educative-pastoral action.

Society: so that it may be served by information that shakes up the world of communication, and be formed by critical awareness, for a culture of peace, and with correct information about young people, education, the Church, religion.
