Welcome to Bosconet-wiki!
Bosconet and Boscowiki are merging!
Bosconet opened a new chapter when it took up wiki technology. You can read about wiki elsewhere on the internet.
From Web 1.0 to Web 2.0
For 15 years, Bosconet, arguably the first Salesian worldwide web site in existence, has been a 'web 1.0' or non-interactive site. Now, as the East Asia-Oceania Region has become more interactive through ten years of austraLasia network activity, Bosconet is setting itself up as a Content Management System or CMS. This enables those who are authorised at various levels, via passwords, to edit and include local material. It will take some months to fully integrate Bosconet and Boscowiki into 'Bosconet-wiki'.
Those who receive austraLasia by email (not just by reading it here) will already have at hand a means to add comments to a particular news item on the austraLasia page. Certain groups in the Region have authorisation so they can work together collaboratively within that group. The administrator can authorise any others on request (contact bosconet@gmail.com). But otherwise, without authorisation, visitors to the site will not be able to change what they read. The important issue is that individuals can be authorised to do so.
For Bosconet to work well as a Content Management System for the EAO Region, it needs to devolve its 'management' to include key editing personnel, and keep to a 'system' which is, in practical terms, a form of organisation making both 'Salesian' and 'Wiki' sense.
Finding your way around Bosconet-wiki
A wiki works slightly differently to a normal web site. It functions on the basis of hyperlinked pages and groups. Each group has its own home page, a link to which is found at the top left of each page you visit, e.g. Main, or EAO and so on. Visiting that page will give you links to other pages in that group. A 'group' is a set of pages connected by a similar theme.
You might also use the sidebar at the left or right to go to specific areas.
None of the content from the original Bosconet has been lost - but not all of it is currently available through these pages - this work of conversion is ongoing and may take a month or so.
