Fr J Adayadiel - Parish Priest

The parish of St Michael, Leauva'a is half way between Apia and Faleolo airport. The people of this parish were from the village of Lealetele where the first Catholic Missionaries were received. They abandoned their homes and lands because of the volcanic eruptions of Mt Matavanu from 1905 to 1911. The people arrived on this island in May 1908 and were resettled here at Leauva'a by the German Government.

The foundation of the present church was blessed on 29 September 1917 but the poverty of the war years and consequent epidemic delayed the work. The Church was finally blessed on 29 September 1932. The Salesians took over the care of this parish in April 1992. Besides the Catholic community in Leauva'a, there are two other villages in the interior of the island cared for by this parish.

The FMA conducts a Pre-school and a Primary School in the Parish.

The parish has the following Pious Associations: Legion of Mary, Mothers' Group, 3rd Order of Mary, Society of St Anne, Catholic Youth, Altar Servers, Children of Mary, Laura Club, Lectors, Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist.

The parish conduct catechism classes for all the children. The average attendance is 450.
